The faculty development office would like to encourage you to modify at least one of the courses you are teaching in 2014-2015 so that you teach more inclusively. The preference is for you to consider making changes to a course that does not carry a Diversity and Power designation.
Later this semester, you will receive a link to a survey asking you what changes you are making to one of your courses. The survey will ask you to provide a paragraph or two description as well as identifying information about yourself and your class. All the submissions will be shared online with the campus community. Everyone who makes a change and completes the survey will receive a certificate to display in the office and/or mention in a self-evaluation. The person making the best course modification, as determined by the faculty development committee and MMIC, will receive a financial award.
How might you change one of your courses? Here are some resources:
- Vanderbilt University has a helpful set of webpages on diversity (http://goo.gl/PBOFpV).
- Creating Inclusive College Classrooms by the Center for Research on Learning and Teaching at the University of Michigan (http://www.crlt.umich.edu/gsis/p3_1)
