Elementary Education - Liberal & Professional Studies
Major
Our goal is to nurture and prepare highly effective teachers who are competent, caring and reflective
All Simpson teacher education students seeking elementary certification complete a dual major: Professional Studies for Elementary Education Major and Liberal Arts for Elementary Education Major. This not only enhances your preparation for the many content areas represented in the K-6 curriculum, but also makes you very marketable.
What will I learn?
Simpson's elementary teacher education program will teach you how to turn your love of young children into a rewarding career. Along with the knowledge you'll gain in the classroom, you will be trained in the ethical expectations and responsibilities of being a teacher while developing important critical thinking skills. Check out a few of the classes you'll be taking.
This class will introduce you to public education and to the profession of teaching. By focusing on the historical, philosophical and sociological aspects of American public education, as well as policies and political issues arising from these foundational issues, the course leads you through a reflective critique of our current educational system and its significance to our society. You will formulate your own philosophy of education and spend a minimum of ten hours on-site, working with a host teacher and his/her students in a nearby elementary school.
