Interested in turning your passion for sports into a career in media, marketing, or communications? At Simpson, our Sports Communication program combines multimedia communication with sport science and sport management, preparing you to tell stories, build brands, and engage audiences across the sports industry.

Learning goes beyond the classroom. You’ll gain hands-on experience through Simpson Student Media, including The Simpsonian, the country’s oldest continuously published campus newspaper, as well as internships and other immersive opportunities. You’ll strengthen your writing, reporting, oral communication, and digital media skills while gaining experience with industry-standard tools and platforms. With Des Moines just 20 minutes from campus, you’ll also have access to a thriving sports market and opportunities to connect classroom learning with the real world.

Sports Communication is an interdepartmental program with the Department of Multimedia Communication and the Department of Sport Science & Health Education.

You will learn diverse presentation and critical thinking skills in journalism, public relations, sports marketing, and management and gain a strong foundation in the relationship of sports and athletics to the worlds of media and communication.

Join the team behind the nation’s oldest continually published student newspaper and help tell the stories that shape the Simpson community. Whether you’re interested in graphic design, photography, writing, social media, or multimedia storytelling, you’ll gain hands-on experience creating content for an award-winning publication. As a member of The Simpsonian, you’ll build your portfolio, collaborate with a talented team, and develop real-world skills while contributing to a publication recognized by the Associated Collegiate Press, the Columbia Scholastic Press Association, the Iowa College Media Association, and the Iowa Newspaper Foundation.

May Term Travel

SCTV

Simpson’s weekly newscast, produced by Simpson Student Media, offers campus coverage, news, and student-produced stories. The program earned top honors when it was named Best Video Newscast by the Iowa College Media Association in 2022.
