Simpson College Presents: The Songs of Frédéric Chopin

A Free Vocal and Piano Recital Featuring Soprano Ania Helwing and Simpson College’s Director of Opera, Dr. Damon Stevens

Simpson College is proud to present The Songs of Frédéric Chopin, a special evening of music celebrating the rarely performed vocal works of one of the Romantic era’s most beloved composers. The recital will take place on Friday, September 5, 2025, at 7:00 PM in the Lekberg Auditorium on the Simpson College campus. Admission is free and open to the public.

Polish soprano Ania Helwing, praised for her expressive artistry and lyrical tone, joins acclaimed pianist Damon Stevens in an intimate performance that explores Chopin’s lesser known but deeply poignant art songs. Best known for his piano masterpieces, Chopin also composed a small but deeply personal body of vocal music, set primarily to Polish texts, rich in folk influence and emotional depth.

This recital offers a rare opportunity to hear these evocative works performed live by two distinguished artists who bring both technical mastery and interpretive insight to the program.

Join us for an unforgettable evening of music that brings new light to the vocal legacy of Frédéric Chopin.
