Prairie Meadows Awards Community Betterment Grant to Simpson

Simpson College has received a $9,998 Community Betterment Grant from Prairie Meadows. The grant will help fund Simpson’s “Bringing Anatomy to Life: Empowering Students with Interactive Anatomical Learning Tools” project.

The Community Betterment Grant seeks to improve the lives of people in central Iowa by enabling Simpson to enhance hands-on anatomical learning experiences for students pursuing careers in healthcare, medicine, nursing, and related fields. The grant will also support Simpson’s rapidly growing health and exercise science program by increasing access to essential learning tools, addressing current resource gaps, and improving student preparedness for careers in healthcare, wellness and rehabilitation.

“This generous grant from Prairie Meadows allows Simpson College to significantly expand both the number and quality of human anatomical models used in our health and exercise science and biology programs,” said Cal Busby, assistant professor of sport science and health education at Simpson College. “These new models will greatly enhance our ability to provide high-impact, hands-on learning experiences that engage a variety of learning styles and deepen student comprehension.”

Simpson faculty across departments will continue to collaborate to maximize the impact of new resources provided through the grant, with implementation beginning this fall. Given its location just 12 miles from the Des Moines metro, which employs more than 35,000 healthcare professionals, Simpson is an especially critical pipeline for healthcare workers in central Iowa.

“At Prairie Meadows, we are dedicated to transforming the lives of central Iowans,” said Prairie Meadows’ Senior Vice President of Business Development Julie Stewart. “We are proud to support Simpson College and many other projects in our community.”
