Class of 23 Chase Henry: Learning to Lead

Program Manager, Innovative Captive Strategies
B.A. Economics: Finance and Business Management

“My experience at Simpson, particularly in small, hands-on classes, equipped me with the confidence and skills needed for success. The professional connections and mentorships I gained were key.”

Learning to Lead

From the moment he arrived at Simpson, Chase Henry ’23 began full pursuit of leadership opportunities that have opened doors to a promising career in business management. Serving as president of ATO and vice-president of Student Government Association, along with many other prominent roles on campus, put him in prime position to build invaluable skills.

“One of the most meaningful highlights during my time at Simpson was representing the student body on the Covid Management Team,” said Henry. “In collaboration with College leadership, we helped create a plan that prioritized student safety while preserving our campus culture and experience.”

That complex endeavor represented just one of many career-building experiences Henry enjoyed while at Simpson. In addition to completing prestigious programs with the Warren County Leadership Institute and Leadership Iowa University, he immersed himself in three internships. Working for the Atlantic Coca-Cola Bottling Company, the Indianola Chamber of Commerce and Simpson’s CFO, Henry gained invaluable insights about business operations and management.

Captive Innovation

Today, Henry is a program manager with Innovative Captive Strategies, which offers businesses a non-traditional approach to insurance through what they call, “captive insurance.” In this model, businesses join together to form their own insurance group — a concept designed to create potential cost savings and more control in managing risks.

“I’m incredibly passionate about managing a captive insurance program for nearly 300 companies, including thousands of Amazon vans nationwide,” says Henry. “Every day, I learn something new and enjoy working with an innovative team that pushes boundaries.”

Henry is also always pushing himself to find new ways to make an impact in his community and professional networks. The Simpson Alumni Board member is actively involved with the Greater Des Moines Partnership, where he serves on the Partnership’s Attraction and Retention Council and is the two-time and current chair of the Young Professionals Connection (YPC).

As he rises in his promising career, Henry is grateful for how Simpson paved the way.

“The relationships I had with professors, coaches and advisers made campus feel like home. Simpson faculty and staff always challenged me to be the best person I can be, and I carry that with me every day.”
