Office of Institutional Effectiveness

What is Institutional Effectiveness? Measuring your commitments. "If you can't measure it, you can't prove it." – Gray Mackenzie.

Welcome to the Simpson College Office of Institutional Effectiveness (OIE)

Institutional effectiveness is a coordinated and collaborative effort by an institution to use multiple data sources to facilitate effective planning and continuous quality improvement. Institutional effectiveness activities enable an institution to determine how well it is fulfilling its mission and achieving its goals. Intergrating institutional research results, assessing academic and co-curricular programs, academic program review, and other initiatives enhance successful action planning and continuous quality improvement.

The American Council on Education (ACE) offers a concise and compelling significance of institutional effectiveness in higher education:

The dynamism and fluidity of current trends and those yet unimagined will continue to influence and shape higher education's future. The degree to which institutions can harness their resources to achieve their objectives will depend upon the clarity of these objectives and the institution's process, developing, and educating senior leaders and the obligation and humbleness to make a significant widespread change at all levels.(ACE, 2017).

Office of Institutional Effectiveness

The mission of the Office of Institutional Effectiveness at Simpson College is to work collaboratively with campus stakeholders in collecting and analyzing institutional data so that administrators can make data informed decisions in fulfillment of the college's mission and goals. With this caveat in mind, the mission and goals of Simpson College drive the mundane activities of the Office of Institutional Effectiveness. OIE supports all college programs and services.

The office also serves as the official clearinghouse for timely and reliable data needed by the college administrators to make informed decisions about continuous quality improvement and strategic planning. OIE works proactively with the academic and non-academic units to identify institutional needs for data to support ongoing academic and co-curricular improvement initiatives.
