Simpson College is hosting the track and field portion of the 2023 National Veterans Golden Age Games from May 22-24 at Buxton Stadium. More than 700 Veterans aged 55+ are participating in events being held in various venues across greater Des Moines.

Event officials recently learned that the track and field venue originally scheduled to host the Games would not be available. So, they reached out to Simpson College Athletics Director Marty Bell, who says he was pleased to accommodate the late request.

“Simpson College Athletics is honored to serve as host for the track and field competition of this great event,” Bell expressed to event officials. “We are pleased to have the opportunity and provide this experience for those individuals who sacrificed and served. We look forward to the excitement this event will bring to our campus and the Indianola community.”

Event officials shared their enthusiasm about competing at Simpson in a news release from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

“We are very excited to hold our events in historic Buxton Stadium and on the Simpson Campus,” said Brittany Hook, director of the National Veterans Golden Age Games. “This is the perfect venue for our Veteran athletes to compete in these events and to exhibit the motto of the games ‘Fitness for Life.’”

All sessions are free and open to the public.
