The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is launching the Edith Nourse Rogers STEM Scholarship for students training in high demand STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) fields.  

Recipients will receive up to nine months of additional Post-9/11 GI Bill® entitlement or a maximum of $30,000.  Eligible Post 9/11 GI Bill® students must have either exhausted their entitlement or will exhaust their entitlement within 180 days.  Eligibility for the scholarship has two paths:

  • A student enrolled in a STEM program leading to an undergraduate degree who has completed 60 credit hours of their program and requires at least 120 semester (or 180 quarter) credit hours to graduate.
  • A student who has earned a STEM undergraduate degree and has enrolled in a teaching certification program.

The Completing the Dream Scholarship:  The Sallie Mae Fund will award gap scholarships work up to $2,500 each to minority students and those from underserved communities who are on track to graduate but are at-risk of not completing due to financial emergency or unpaid school bill.  Students can apply now for the Completing the Dream Scholarship at www.salliemae.com/landing/completing-the-dream.

Soroptimist Club of Des Moines is offering a $1,000 scholarship to a woman who is head of her household , is in financial need and has gone back to school to enhance her opportunities for herself and her family.  The winner will go on for further award consideration in our Region area.  The application is an ONLINE process that is overseen by the "parent group, Soroptimist International of the Americas, located in Philadelphia.  The process starts at www.soroptimist.org
