English Major

Department of English

What will I learn?

From studying the influence of Shakespeare to discovering the power of Toni Morrison, the entire world is open to you. As an English major, you will learn to interpret the expression of others, craft your own arguments and communicate your own creative thoughts and ideas.

If you're interested in writing fiction, this course will focus on accomplished writers as a way of learning effective skills and techniques. You will also have the opportunity to write and revise your own work.

What can I do with my degree?

Any field that demands writing talent and communication skills—in short, all of them—is open to employing English majors. Our graduates have gone on to successful careers as writers, editors, communications specialists, ministers, lawyers and teachers. And there are many other options.

We want you to be as excited by the potential of an English major as our current students are. See what opportunities are available to you in the English Department. A faculty member would be glad to chat with you about your career goals, and how an English degree can help get you there.
