Major and Endorsements
If you love sports, exercise and teaching, this is the major for you
When asked about their favorite class, many K-12 students would reply "PE!" At Simpson, we will prepare you to be a great physical education teacher through a well-rounded education and mentorship through your student teaching assignments. One of the unique opportunities at Simpson is the opportunity to work with special need students. Simpson is host to several adaptive track meets along with the Hot Shot competition.
What will I learn?
You will be prepared become a licensed physical education teacher incorporating coursework from the Department of Sport Science as well as from the Department of Teacher Education. You can receive a K-8 or 5-12 teaching endorsement, or a health endorsement for K-12.
You will focus on subjects, administration, activities and methods of teaching and supervising physical education in the elementary school. Emphasis is on the teaching of activities which contribute to the total development of the elementary school child.
Health Endorsement
At least 50% of our PETE majors get their health endorsement. The endorsement is designed around the state teaching requirements and health national standards and allows the graduate opportunities to work in the classroom with students, grades K-12. It's an added benefit when looking for a job.
