Auditions for HENRY 5

Theatre Seating

by William Shakespeare
adapted and directed by Tom Woldt
September 1, 2009

How do you sign up for auditions?
In the fall there will be a sign up sheet on the callboard in the basement of Blank Performing Arts Center. Sign up for an audition time when you return to campus.

What should you prepare?
We recommend that you memorize and stage a sixty (60) second monologue from  a Shakespeare play other than Henry 5. The monologue may be serious or comic (or both!)  For those who are new to the process we will have monologues available for cold readings. (This cold-reading option is not recommended for theatre majors, minors or scholarship recipients.)

When are auditions?
TUESDAY, September 1, between 6:00-9:00 p.m.
Callbacks are September 2 in afternoon or evening.

What should you wear?
Think of the audition as an interview and dress appropriately. You do want to make sure you are wearing something you are comfortable in which allows you to move during the audition.

Where will you audition?
The auditions will take place in Pote Theatre. There will be a chair available for you to use if you need it. You will fill out an audition form in the lobby of the theatre and then the stage manager will tell you when to enter the theatre. Arrive at least fifteen minutes before your audition time. (Make sure you bring your schedule of all your Fall events with you because you will be asked to include your schedule on the audition form--this includes classes, work, weddings, etc.)

What will happen at the audition?
When you come into Pote you will need to introduce yourself and your monologue. After you complete your audition we may have some questions for you.

Other information.

  • The callback list will be posted Wednesday, September 2, before Noon.
  • NOTE-On September 1, you will also be indicating any preferences you may have for crew/production positions for BOTH Henry 5 AND Back Story (Opening Sept. 25)
  • Acting/production scripts will be available in August on reserve in Dunn Library.
  • In the meantime, any version of Henry 5 (or "Henry V") will do for reading purposes--most libraries or book stores will have one either as a single edition or in a Complete works of Shakespeare" anthology.
  • Auditions are open to all Simpson College community members.
