Workshop Options 2007

WORKSHOP OPTIONS

(subject to change due to personnel, space, or interest)

STUDENT WORKSHOP (open to students only)

A.     PHYSICAL WARM UP FOR THE ACTOR:  Warm-up, relaxation, and concentration techniques for the actor.

B.     VOCAL WARM UP FOR THE ACTOR:  Breathing, articulation and resonance exercises for the actor.

C.     STAGE DIALECTS FOR THE ACTOR:  The basics of developing a dialect such as British.

D.      STAGE COMBAT:  Learn the basics of a great stage fight.

E.      IMPROVISATION:  Elements of individual and group improvisation to free the actor's imagination.

F.     MUSICAL THEATRE TECHNIQUES:  Applying acting techniques to a song/musical theatre.

G.    STAGE MAKEUP:  A hands-on workshop in which each participant will have the opportunity to apply one or more makeup techniques, such as aging, scars, face-paint, etc.

H.     COSTUMES FOR THE STAGE:  An interactive workshop for developing creative stage fashion.

I.      LIGHTING TECHNIQUES:  A hands-on workshop in which the participant will experiment with various aspects of lighting, such as control, color, and illumination.

J.      ACTING STYLES/GREEK THEATRE:  Explore Greek acting style in performance.

K.     SOUND FOR THE STAGE:  Designing, creating, and organizing sound effects for use in stage productions.

L.      DANCE FUNDAMENTALS:  Beginning movement techniques that introduce the student to dance for the stage.

M.     READER’S THEATRE:  Exploration of group performance techniques for literature. 

N.      ADMISSIONS: Juniors and Seniors interested in exploring prospective enrollment at Simpson may meet with an Admissions representative.

WORKSHOP “O” IS OPEN ONLY TO TEACHERS AND HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS

O.      RISQUE BUSINESS:  How can theatre be used as a tool for learning about important issued faced by high school and college students?  A presentation of scenes and vignettes followed by a question and answer session.  NOTE:  This workshop is open to teachers and senior-level students only.

P.       DESIGNING SCENERY FOR THE STAGE:  An “up-close” look at various design and construction techniques for stage scenery, such as computer-aided design, etc…

WORKSHOP “Q” IS OPEN ONLY TO TEACHERS

Q.       HIGH SCHOOL DRAMA TEACHER’S “TOWN MEETING”:   (DOUBLE SESSION:  10:10-11:40).  Hosted and moderated by a high school teacher and director with over two decades of experience, this workshop is designed to give you a chance to meet other like-minded educators and discuss in an open forum some of the every-day challenges/joys/concerns you face as a teacher of theatre at your school.
