Sustainability

Sustainability Committee

After President Byrd signed the Climate Commitment, a group of faculty and students began meeting monthly to develop a plan to meet the ultimate goal of carbon neutrality. The committee consists of faculty from various departments as well as a wide range of students and is open to the entire Simpson community.

The committee discusses potential sustainable projects openly, looking not only at reduction in costs, but also reduction in carbon dioxide. Reducing water, energy and waste each year is the committee's objective.

The Sustainability Committee has been a key component of making big changes for the environment at Simpson. Some of the most recent projects led by the Sustainability Committee include:

Installation of low flow toilets campus-wide

The purchase of an electric car

The current campus-wide recycling program

The Sustainability Committee will continue to meet even after many of the large projects are completed to ensure Simpson continues to keep sustainability in mind as the college continues to change and grow.
