Spanish Certification Internship Translations Service
The Simpson Spanish Department in conjunction with DMACC's Spanish Interpreter/Translation Certification course will work with undergraduate students majoring in Spanish to also meet interpreter/ translation certification criteria upon graduation. The students will spend time conducting translation services through SUSI in order to meet the active hours necessary to meet certification requirements.

SUSI Urban Anthropology Cultural Sensitivity Program investigates cultural inhibitors to effective integration of minority and ethnic groups into the larger life of the community.

Des Moines Alternative Education Study
Des Moines Alternative Education Study - Develop and/or evaluate models of community-based educational settings to increase high school graduation rates and decrease suspension rates.

Cultural Music, Arts & Dance
Cultural Music, Arts, & Dance - Utilize the creative spirits of children already involved in programs to provide enrichment & self-esteem building projects/groups and research the impact has on pro-social behaviors.

Sustainable Urban Communities
Sustainable Urban Communities - To evaluate Urban Garden impact on urban fresh produce consumption, viability, and challenges.

Urban Small Business Incubator
Urban Small Business Incubator - Simpson in collaboration with ISED will provide short-term education on business management, start-up, accounting, and other services for inner-city businesses. Also, work with neighborhood youth on financial literacy, leadership, and civic engagement.

Detention Reform Initiative
Detention Reform Initiative - Will conduct a meta-­analysis of current disproportionate minority contact (DMC) research and data in collaboration with statewide shareholders. Research findings will assist with organization program implementation to evaluate outcomes for dissemination to juvenile justice provider network.

Tobacco Cessation in the African American Community: Needs Assessments
Tobacco Cessation in the African American community: Needs Assessments- Conduct county assessments regarding tobacco usage and prevention to develop culturally-sensitive anti-tobacco marketing campaigns.

Short-term Neighborhood Improvement Projects
Short-term Neighborhood Improvement Projects - Work with local youth and college students to improve neighborhood conditions. Establishes pride in the neighborhoods and connects youth with a college­-aged mentor to increase exposure to higher education options.
