CampusConnect 2008

Sponsored by Student Support Services (SSS), CampusConnect is a pre-Fall introduction to Simpson and college life. Approximately 10-15 incoming First Year students have the opportunity to kick-start their academic, social, and personal adjustment to college through this unique program. As part of CampusConnect, students recieve a variety of FREE services prior to the start of the fall semester. This week consists of a structured, well-rounded selection of coursework, programming and fun!

What goes on during CampusConnect (examples below)?

  • Welcome Dinner and activity
  • ENG 97 class*
  • Workshops on study skills and college adjustment
  • Outdoor and recreational activities
  • Dining and events both in Indianola and Des Moines
  • Service projects within the surrounding community

*ENG 97 is a developmental preparatory course for ENG 101 and 102. As part of CampusConnect,
this one credit course and the required textbook are FREE.

In past years, those successfully completing ENG 97 also successfully completed ENG 101,
improved their GPA, and had a rewarding experience.

Benefits of CampusConnect:

  • Move into campus housing a week early - no waiting in line!
  • Complete ENG 97 - taught by Simpson faculty and counts towards credits needed for graduation.
  • Meet some of you new classmates, Simpson staff and faculty.
  • Advanced acceptance into the SSS program for fall.
  • Learn about Simpson College and how to be a successful student.
  • Indianola and Des Moines - see and interact with the local and surrounding community through fun  and learning activities.
  • Get to know and work with SSS Peer Mentors and staff.
  • Upon completion, student may recieve a $400 Scholarship towards fall textbooks (elibibility based on income guidelines).
