Fall 2009
______________________________________________________________________
Come learn more about the Fall '09 London program at an information session on Monday, Sept. 22 from 4:00-5:00pm in McNeill Hall's Pioneer Conference Room.
______________________________________________________________________
The faculty leader for the Fall '09 London program will be Professor Mark Gammon, and the following courses will be offered:
• HUM 190 Introduction to British Culture and Society (Cornerstone 7)
• POSC 290 Religion and Politics in England (Cornerstone 3)
• HIST 390 The English Reformation (Cornerstone 4B)
• REL 290 Muslims in the Contemporary West (Cornerstone 4A)
• An Art history course (Cornerstone 5)
In keeping with the tradition of the Semester in London program, all five of these classes help students fulfill Cornerstone requirements, in this case four different cornerstones (3, 4, 5, and 7). The courses all will have a British theme and make use of the resources available for experiential learning in the country. Three of the courses (HUM 190, POSC 290, and HIST 390) will require students to put classic authors in historical context, and students will be encouraged to visit relevant sites.
As in past London semester programs, service learning activities will be made available to students, thereby giving them the opportunity to learn while serving with various non-profit organizations in London. As a result, students can come away with direct, hands-on experiences in one of the most important and fascinating urban centers of the world.
