Study Abroad

London

Fall 2011

Applications for the next London program will be accepted in October 2010.

Big Ben TowerThe faculty leader for the Fall '11 London program will be Professor Rebecca Livingstone, and the following courses will be offered:

  • Introduction to British Culture and Society (Cornerstone 7)
  • History of Tudor-Stuart England (Cornerstone 4B)
  • Urban Anthropology of London (Cornerstone 3)
  • Literary England (Cornerstone 4B)
  • An Art History course (Cornerstone 5)

In keeping with the tradition of the Semester in London program, all five of these classes help students fulfill Cornerstone requirements. The courses all will have a British theme and make use of the resources available for experiential learning in the country. Many of them will require students to put classic authors in historical context, and students will be encouraged to visit relevant sites.

As in past London semester programs, service learning activities will be made available to students, thereby giving them the opportunity to learn while serving with various non-profit organizations in London. As a result, students can come away with direct, hands-on experiences in one of the most important and fascinating urban centers of the world.

Requirements
Students must take a one-credit hour orientation course during the spring semester preceding the semester in London. Students must also have a grade point average of at least 2.25 both at the time of appliacation for the program, and at the time of departure in order to be able to study abroad.

  • A copy of the data page from your passport, or if you don't already have a (valid) passport, apply for one and make a photocopy of your completed application form but black out your social security number on the form.

By Monday, Nov. 7, 2010, go to the Simpson College Business Office and:

  • Make a $200 non-refundable deposit for the program (these funds will be returned to you should you not get accepted into the program).
