Off-Campus Travel Course proposals
Faculty members interested in proposing an off-campus travel course for May Term 2013 should consult the course planning guidelines and use the course proposal form. International travel course proposals are due to the Office of International Education by Monday, January 16, 2012.

Call for proposals to direct an upcoming semester abroad program

The Office of International Education is seeking faculty proposals to direct one of two upcoming "Simpson Experience Abroad" (SEA) semester programs:

  • Argentina in Spring 2014: Simpson partners with UCEL, a Methodist-affiliated institution in Rosario, Argentina.
  • Tahiti in Spring or Fall 2014 (actual semester yet to be determined): Simpson partners with the University of French Polynesia on the South Pacific island of Tahiti in French Polynesia.

Interested faculty members should consult the program proposal guidelines, and be in touch with Jay Wilkinson for guidance and assistance prior to submitting a proposal by the Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2011 deadline.  Upon submission, proposals will then be reviewed by the Study Abroad Committee which will make a recommendation to Dean Griffith, who will make the final decision about who the program directors for these programs will be by late November, 2011.

International Travel Course development grants
Due to budgetary cuts, the OIE regrets to announce that grant funds will very likely NOT be available for Summer 2012 as they have been in recent years.  Should funds become available, an announcement will be made to faculty.  It is hoped that grant funding will be restored such that grants can resume for Summer 2013.

Semester Abroad Program Director’s Self-Evaluation
Upon completing a Simpson Experience Abroad semester program, faculty directors are required to submit a written evaluation of the program. The evaluation should be submitted electronically to the International Education Coordinator no later than one month after program completion. Click here for the self-evaluation (Document or PDF).

Opportunity to serve as a visiting faculty member at Harlaxton College in England
As a partner institution of the University of Evansville's Harlaxton College in England, Simpson has the opportunity to nominate up to two of its professors to potentially serve as a visiting faculty member at Harlaxton for either the Fall 2012 or Spring 2013 semester. If you’re interested, in learning more about this opportunity, I would encourage you to read the attached “Call for Nominations” and the application form.

Questions in regards to being away from one’s regular teaching responsibilities at Simpson should be directed to Academic Dean Steve Griffith. Generally speaking though, Simpson cannot pay for adjunct replacements outside of the sabbatical budget for visiting professors at Harlaxton, but if the faculty member doesn’t need to be replaced or if she/he has some sort of grant funding which could cover the adjunct replacement costs, then the faculty member can be granted leave to teach at Harlaxton.

Also, Simpson will cover the roundtrip airfare from Des Moines to London for any of its faculty members selected to teach as a visiting professor at Harlaxton. The cost of airfare for any accompanying family members will be the responsibility of the faculty member.

Completed applications and supporting documentation must be submitted electronically to Jay Wilkinson in the OIE by Friday, March 25, 2011.

Crisis Management Plan for Simpson-sponsored Study Abroad Programs
