Simpson Goes 3-1 At Washington Inviational
Simpson College opened the 2008 volleyball season by going 3-1 at the Washington Invitational Aug. 30-31 in St. Louis, Mo. The Storm finished second in the tournament as the host Bears went 4-0.
Storm hitters Amy Schuster (So., Indianola, Iowa, Indianola H.S.) and Whitney Oviatt (Jr., Carnation, Wash., Cedarcrest H.S.) were named to the All-Tournament team.
Simpson opened the tournament on Saturday with a 3-2 victory over No. 19 UW-Eau Claire. Schuster had 16 kills and 19 digs in the match while Oviatt added 15 kills. The Storm lost 3-0 to Washington, who are ranked No. 2 in the preseason CBS College Sports/AVCA Top 25 poll. Simpson defeated Lawrence (3-0) and Cardinal Strich (3-1) during Sunday's play.
The Storm resume action Tuesday, Sept. 9 when Simpson travels to No. 22 Central for a 7:30 p.m. varsity match.
