Athlete Spotlight - Sarah Hammel

Junior Sarah Hammel has always loved running and the competition involved in track and field. A distance runner, Hammel has received many awards and placed at Nationals in the 800-meter run during the 2008-09 track season.
"I love the adrenaline rush I get when I step up to the line," said Hammel. " I love the individualistic portion of the sport. The coaches prepare you for the race, but you decide on any given day how you will do and how fast you run."
Hammel, a biology major, came to Simpson because she knew she could focus on her education as well as athletics.
"I am a biology major because I love animals," said Hammel. "My plans are to graduate and then go on to work in a zoo somewhere. Eventually, my goal is to work with marine mammals."
