Chelsey DegenEvents: Throws

High School and Hometown: Algona, Iowa

Honors: All American Honors, Division III National Championship qualifier

After winning the state championship in discus her senior year in high school, Chelsey Degen decided to continue track and field at Simpson.

As a freshman, Degen attended the NCAA Track and Field National Championship for discus.

"Participating in Nationals as a freshman was very intimidating because I was surrounded by the best of the best," said Degen. "It was really hard to concentrate on what I needed to do at the tournament because of the great competition."

During the weekends, Degen participates in an organization called Best Buddies. This group allows Simpson students to meet with disabled adults a few times a month.

"We do activities such as go bowling, out to eat, shopping or to the movies," said Degen. "I really enjoy participating in Best Buddies because it allows me the opportunity to interact with a different group of people. We can both learn a lot from each other."
