Senior Jess Nims understands the importance of getting involved on campus. Her involvement in activities, such as SAAC, Public Relations Student Society of America, the CHAMPS/Life Skills program and Intramural Council, has been very rewarding and has provided her with skills needed to enter the real world.
“I have had so many opportunities to be involved in activities and meet so many new people,” said Nims. “I have learned time management skills, to be patient, determined and how important it is to stay involved.”
One of Nims favorite memories is volunteering with her Liberal Arts Seminar (LAS). LAS classes group new students into communities with other first-year students. LAS classes perform service, share meals, attend campus events or participate in social activities together in addition to their normal course work.
“Freshman year we spent a lot of time with our LAS class volunteering at various locations in Des Moines,” said Nims. “It was a really fun and rewarding experience to go through, especially since it was with the people we knew best at the time.”
