Athlete Spotlight - Chelsy Croson

CrosonHigh School and Hometown: Newton High School, Newton, Iowa

With a new coach, the women's swim team is hoping to dive into the season with a refreshed passion to succeed, and senior Chelsy Croson is certainly gearing up for a great season.

"This year is off to a great start," said Croson. "Not only do we have the largest team ever, but we have a coach that is dedicated. Aaron Strain is a tough coach who knows when to be understanding and when to tell us to just get our butts in the pool."

With a very successful high school swimming career, Croson made it to state in the 200 free relay. After her last high school meet, she couldn't imagine life without swimming.

"It was hard to imagine that being my last competition, so I was excited to find a college that not only would give me a good education, but would allow me to participate in a sport that I love," she said.

Croson is graduating in May with an honors in mathematics degree and a minor in economics. She hopes to attend graduate school and eventually work in the insurance industry or with a national security agency.
