Athlete Spotlight - Melody Burgus
High School and Hometown: Hoover High School, Des Moines,
Iowa
Melody Burgus quickly realized she missed swimming after not competing her freshman year at another college.
Burgus, an environmental science major and biology minor, transferred to Simpson because it gave her the opportunity to swim while learning from a quality biology program. She would like to be an environmental scientist when she graduates and is certified to SCUBA dive.
She holds three school records in the 1650, 1000 and 500 freestyle.
Being a student-athlete taught Burgus to be organized. She said she gets better grades during the season because she is forced to prioritize and make time for studying.
