Simpson 10th At Liberal Arts Invitational
Simpson College finished 10th (90) at the Liberal Arts Invitational to end the 2008-09 women's swimming season. Luther (785) won the team scoring event.
Chelsey Croson (Sr., Newton, Iowa, Newton H.S.) was 11th in the 100 breaststroke (1:20.76). Croson was 13th in the 200 butterfly (2:41.81). Croson's performances were the highest individual placing for the Storm during the meet. Her time in the 200 butterfly is a new school record, breaking her own school mark (2:44.15) that was recorded in 2006.
Kirsten Towne (Sr., Gowrie, Iowa, Prairie Valley H.S.) finished 16th in the 100 butterfly (1:10.36).
Catherine Mayes (Fr., Muscatine, Iowa, Muscatine H.S.) placed 16th in the 200 IM (2:36.74).
The 200 freestyle relay of Towne, Amanda Fichter (So., Sidney, Iowa, Sidney H.S.), Mayes, and Kayla Miller (So., Odebolt, Iowa, Odebolt-Arthur H.S.) finished 10th in a time of 2:00.74.
The 200 medley relay of Mayes, Croson, Fitcher, and Towne came in 10th (2:11.60).
The 400 medley relay of Mayes, Croson, Fichter, and Towne was ninth (5:00.63).
The 400 freestyle relay of Mayes, Towne, Ali Robinson (Fr., Atlantic, Iowa, Atlantic H.S.), and Kendra Frush (Sr., Jesup, Iowa, Jesup H.S.) placed 10th (4:20.61).
The 800 freestyle relay of Frush, Jaimie Summers (Fr., West Des Moines, Iowa, Valley H.S.), Miller, and Robinson finished 10th with a time of 10:30.04.
"We had a meet in which nearly everybody had a best time in (their) events," said Simpson head coach Aaron Strain. "All of the seniors played a significant role in our success, Chelsey was able to break her own school record in the 200 butterfly in the last swim of her career. IT was a special moment for the entire team."
