Athlete Spotlight - Carlye Owens
Position: First Base/Pitcher
Hometown and High School: Norwalk High School, Norwalk, Iowa
Honors: 2007 First team All Conference
Beginning her last season of softball as the only senior on the team, Carlye Owens is confident that "this is the year for the Storm."
"We are a young team, but we have huge expectations for ourselves," she said. "We feel that we have a chance to be conference champions as we compete in the toughest conference in Division III. We expect everyone to come together and compete successfully in the post season."
Owens credits her passion for softball to her father, who got her involved in the game at a young age.
"My dad got me started in softball," said Owens. "He really inspired my passion for the sport when I was young. Once I became attached to the sport, I would force him to play catch with me after supper."
Owens' father, who is an assistant softball coach for the Storm, is also partly responsible for her decision to attend Simpson. Both of Owens' parents are Simpson alumni, and when she looked at colleges, she decided that Simpson seemed like a good fit for her as well.
