Softball drops 2 in Decorah

The Simpson College softball team travelled to Decorah to play Luther in a double-header on Wednesday. Kelsie Host (left) (So. Altoona, IA) led off the first game for Simpson with a solo home run to start the scoring. The homerun by Host was her first of the season. Simpson scored 2 runs in the first inning to take the lead 2-0. After exchanging runs in the third inning, Luther scored 3 runs in the 4th to tie the game at 4. The game went into extra innings and in the bottom of the 9th Luther's Danielle Ambruster cleared the bases on a 3 run homer to clinch the game for Luther. The final score was 7-4.
In game two a 6 run 5th inning by the Norse put Luther up 7-3. Luther would score one more run in the 6th inning to win game two 8-3. Kortney Proctor (Jr. Wilton, IA) went 2-4 at the
plate with an RBI. Jessica Barkley (right) (Jr. Mitchellville, IA) homered in the 4th inning, her first of the season, earning 2 RBIs. Simpson is now 2-4 in the conference and 21-11 overall. The Storm will return home to McBride Field on Friday April 10th for a makeup double-header against Central College. Game 1 is set to begin at 4:00 p.m.
