Softball starts conference play 2-0

RoshekThe Simpson softball team started the Iowa Conference schedule by defeating the University of Dubuque in both games on Sunday. Veronica Roshek (left) (Fr. Johnston, IA) went 4-4 at the plate with 3 singles and a double. Keri Sorensen (Fr. Bettendorf, IA) had 1 RBI going 2-4 at the plate with two singles. Sorensen also scored the game winning run being driven in by Carlye Owens (Sr. Norwalk, IA). Whitney Oviatt (Jr. Carnation, WA) pitched a complete game earning her 17th win of the season. Oviatt struck out 5 Spartan batters as Simpson came from behind in the 7th to win 5-4.

In game 2 of the double header Simpson scored 1 run in the 7th to defeat the Spartans 7-6. Freshman from Indianola, Iowa Sidney Ridout (below right) was credited with a double in the bottom of theRidout seventh as she drove in Lacey Davis (Fr. Tama, IA) from 2nd base to clinch the victory for Simpson. Ridout went 3-4 at the plate with 3 RBIs in game 2. Bryn Johnson (So. Laurens, IA) was awarded the win for Simpson, her 2nd of the year. The Storm are 21-7 overall and 2-0 in the Iowa Conference.
Simpson Softball will be back in action Wednesday April, 1 at Wartburg and will return to Indianola this Saturday, April 4th, for a double header against conference rival Central College.
