Athlete Spotlight - Kellie Whitney
Position: Forward
High School and Hometown: North High School, Oshkosh, Wisconsin
Honors: Letter winner in soccer and track
Kellie Whitney originally came to Simpson to run track, but once on campus, she was recruited by her sister, the former assistant coach for women’s soccer, to play for the soccer team.
Whitney did not play soccer in high school because the season overlapped with the track season, but she is enjoying her commitment to the soccer team.
“We have a lot to work on before next year,” said Whitney. “Luckily, we only graduated two people. It won’t be too hard to adjust to new players because most of the team is coming back. We already have the vibe for how each other plays.”
Juggling two sports and her classes, Whitney has taken the responsibility of a student-athlete head on. With two sports, she is busy most of the year with workouts, games and meets, but she still finds time to get her schoolwork completed.
“Being a student-athlete makes being a student more difficult because sometimes you have to miss class when you have to travel around Iowa or outside of state,” said Whitney. “Athletics take up a lot of time with all the games and practices every night, but you learn to balance your time and excel.”
