McMahon Scores Two Goals To Lead Simpson Past Cornell 4-1

Mollie McMahon scored two goals to lead the Storm past the Rams.Mollie McMahon (Jr., Des Moines, Iowa, Roosevelt H.S.) scored two goals to lead Simpson College (7-5-1, 3-2 IIAC) past Cornell College (7-5, 2-2 IIAC) 4-1 in Iowa Conference women's soccer action Oct. 14 in Mount Vernon. The Rams scored first when Leanne Carberry broke the seal at the 21:03 mark. McMahon was awarded a penalty kick in the 31st minute and she converted the PK to tie the match. McMahon put the Storm ahead for good a little over three minutes later when she scored.

Lacey Davis (Fr., Tama, Iowa, Grinnell H.S.) opened the scoring in the second half when she scored off a Nicole Dillenburg (Fr., Urbandale, Iowa, Urbandale H.S.) free kick at 51:33. Catherine Mayes (Fr., Muscatine, Iowa, Muscatine H.S.) capped off the offense when hit on a Megan Ginsberg (Fr., Iowa City, Iowa, West H.S.) assist.  Simpson goalie Whitney Franker (Sr., Urbandale, Iowa, Urbandale H.S.) tied the school record (Ashley Wilson, 1999-2002) for most career victories with 35.  Franker is 35-23-7 in her career.

"Its good to get back on the winning track," said Simpson head coach Cory Chapman. "We need to still work hard and continue to get better. Our offense worked hard and created opportunities. We have a tough match coming up on Saturday at Central."

Saturday's match against Central is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
