Luther Defeats Simpson 3-2

Nicole Dillenburg scored both goals for the Storm Saturday.Luther College (7-4-2, 2-1-1 IIAC) defeated Simpson College (6-5-1, 2-2 IIAC) 3-2 in Iowa Conference women's soccer action Oct. 11 in Indianola. The Norse got on the board first, scoring 3:18 into the match on a Emily Ironside goal from 12 yards out. The Storm tied the match a little under two minutes later when Nicole Dillenburg (Fr., Urbandale, Iowa, Urbandale H.S.) scored in front off a Katherine Bird (Fr., Iowa City, Iowa, City H.S.) assist. Kendra Ledel put Luther back into the lead with a goal at the 28:25 mark. Danie Meirick launched a 40-yarder with the wind in the 33rd minute. The ball sailed past Storm goalie Whitney Franker (Sr., Urbandale, Iowa, Urbandale H.S.) and gave Luther a two-goal advantage. Dillenburg scored again, this time off a direct kick, at 82:27.

 

"We will need to regroup and get ready to play on a short turnaround on Tuesday at Cornell," said Simpson head coach Cory Chapman. "We typically do not play well at Cornell, but we need to prepare and get our kids healthy for two Iowa Conference matches on the road next week."

The Storm head to Mount Vernon to take on the Rams in a 3:30 p.m. start on Tuesday.
