Women's Golf Earns Highest IIAC Finish Since 2006
DECORAH, Iowa (Oct. 3, 2009) – Three Simpson women’s golfers finished in the top-10 at the 2009 IIAC Women’s Golf Championship at Oneota Golf and Country Club, as the Storm took home third place honors in the four-round tournament that ended Saturday.
Seniors Katie Vaux and Megan Smith led the way for Simpson, as each earned top-10 finishes for the fourth time in their careers. Vaux (82-80-80-85) placed sixth after carding a 327 and Smith (83-77-86-87) placed eighth, as each closed out their prolific collegiate careers.
Sophomore Taylor Hillery earned all-conference honors for the first time in her career, after carding a 334 (83-80-89-82). Junior Kayla Miller placed 21st with a 354 (87-90-88-89) and junior Chelsy Manny came in 23rd with a 357 (92-85-91-89).
Simpson (1343) ended the championship 40 strokes back of second-place Central and 57 behind conference-champion Wartburg. Luther (1367) placed fourth, followed by Coe (1456), Buena Vista (1463), Loras (1470) and Dubuque (1689).
The third-place finish marked the Storm’s highest finish since the 2006 team won the Iowa Conference Championship. Simpson placed fourth in both 2007 and 2008.
