Simpson Defeats Central 42-3 For Program's 400th Dual Victory

Simpson College (4-10, 1-7 IIAC) defeated Central College (0-15-1, 0-8 IIAC) 42-3 in the final regular season dual of the year for both programs.  The victory marked the 400th in the history of the Storm program since it began in 1924. With no matches at 125 or 133, the dual began at 141 where Caleb Brus (Fr., Creston, Iowa, Creston H.S.) pinned Nick Johnson in just 31 seconds.
 
Curtis Barber (So., Winterset, Iowa, Winterset H.S.) won by forfeit at 149 as did Ben Hektoen (Jr., Birmingham, Iowa, Fairfield H.S.) at 157.  Geoff Murtha (Sr., West Des Moines, Iowa, Valley H.S.) pinned Kevin Yeoman 1:29 into the 165-pound match.  Jordy Ammons (Fr., Knoxville, Iowa, Knoxville H.S.) pinned Jeremiah Teeple at the 2:03 mark of their 174-pound contest.
 
Garret Kiley (Sr., Eagle Grove, Iowa, Eagle Grove H.S.) won by forfeit at 184.  Sam Collora (So., Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, Mt. Pleasant H.S.) earned the final Storm victory of the night, a pin at 2:17 of his 197-pound match of Chris Kerran.  Ted Dirkx defeated Caleb Shaeffer (Sr., Huxley, Iowa, Ballard H.S.) 7-2 in overtime of the heavyweight match.
 
Simpson is now 400-368 since the program began in 1924.  Simpson wrestled until 1928 before the program suspended operations until 1959.  The victory marked the 196th and final dual victory for Storm head coach Ron Peterson who is going to resign at the end of the season.  Peterson is the winningest coach in school history with a 196-106-2 record (a .647 winning percentage).
 
Simpson is off until Feb. 21 when the Storm compete in the Iowa Conference Championships in Waverly.
