Athlete Spotlight - Ben Hektoen
Hometown and High School: Birmingham, Iowa, Fairfield High School
Wrestling since he was in second grade, senior Ben Hektoen has an unconditional love for the sport, particularly the individual aspect of it.
"I love the notion that you control everything that happens in each one of your matches," said Hektoen. "When you lose, you have no one to blame but yourself."
In addition to wrestling, Hektoen also enjoys hunting turkey during the off-season. He loves being outside and has been hunting since he was in high school.
"Hunting is something that lets me forget about everything I have going on, and I can just enjoy myself," said Hektoen.
Hektoen thinks this wrestling season will be a surprise to many and mentions that staying healthy throughout the duration of the season will be vital to the team's success.
