Athlete Spotlight - Calvin Barber

Junior Calvin Barber is excited for the next wrestling season to begin.
After being diagnosed with two concussions last season, Barber was unable to participate for some of the wrestling season, so he is ready to get started with a new season, team and coach.
Next season, Calvin and twin brother Curtis Barber’s cousin Clint Manny will be taking over the head coaching position. Manny also attended Simpson and wrestled, receiving team MVP every year.
“I am looking forward to Clint being the head coach,” Barber said. “Clint was a great wrestler, and I have always looked up to him and wanted to be like him.”
Aside from wrestling, Barber finds other unique activities to pass his time. A few years ago, during the summer, Barber was dared to ride a bull and took the challenge.
“When I ride the bulls, it isn’t scary but more of a rush,” said Barber. “My two favorite things when riding are getting down into the chutes and onto the bull’s back because you never know what is going to happen. The bull may just sit there or buck you off.”
