Athlete Spotlight - Kyle Yarkosky
Events: Sprints/Multi
High School and Hometown: Albia, Iowa
Junior Kyle Yarkosky is passionate about running, mainly because his performance can't be controlled by his teammates or luck. It's all up to him.
When Yarkosky is running, he said it's as though there is a flash of heaven and hell all at once.
"The balance of heaven and hell while running is a Zen-like, almost religious experience for me," said Yarkosky. "Track is a sport that is completely quantitative. It's not up to a coach or judge to determine who is better; the better person runs the faster time."
Yarkosky runs the 200 and 400 meter relays for individual events. He also runs the 4x100, 4x400 and medley relays.
Yarkosky said that training for track is different than training for other sports because much more preparation goes into the sport.
"Training for track is very difficult," Yarkosky said. "It takes a lot of attention to detail when working on the mechanics and form of running. When is comes to conditioning, it is very hard both physically and mentally."
