Junior John Wardenburg came to Simpson with the intention of playing football, but then decided to take up another sport: track and field.

"I was going to Simpson to play football and when I got here I thought I might give track a try," said Wardenburg. "I had a good time doing it in high school, so I thought it would be fun."

Football and throwing might seem like they are unrelated to each other, but Wardenburg says both sports are actually similar and have their benefits.

"Track practices are shorter and a lot easier because if you have to fix anything, it's just a throwing technique," he said. "With football, you have to know multiple techniques and plays, so we usually get drilled over and over on many different techniques."

Participating in two sports can often be strenuous, but Wardenburg said he likes the variation he gets with both sports.

"I think being a two-sport athlete has really benefitted me because I can learn things in football that I would never learning throwing," he said. "It's nice too because things that happen in football can carry over to track and help me."
