Athlete Spotlight - Russell Place
High School and Hometown: Norwalk High School, Norwalk, Iowa
Russell Place chose Simpson College because it would give him the opportunity to continue playing tennis, his favorite sport, while getting a good education.
Off the court, Place participates in the CHAMPS/Life Skills Program, the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and Residence Life. He also is an announcer for the men’s and women’s basketball games, which are broadcast online at redzonemedia.com.
“I love watching sports, so I wanted the experience calling games,” said Place.
Place is a movie buff who owns more than 120 films on DVD. He said he has favorites in every genre and likes everything from “The Clockwork Orange” to “Love Actually.”
