Athlete Spotlight – Matt Winegard
High School and Hometown: Muscatine High School, Muscatine, Iowa
Honors: COSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Acadamic All-District VII Second Team, Academic All-Conference
Matt Winegard was attracted to Simpson from his very first visit to campus.
“If I could do it all over again, I would still choose Simpson” said Winegard, “I have made a lot of friends, learned a lot about life and made worthwhile connections that are paying off now that I am applying for graduate school.”
A biology major, Winegard is also involved in the honors society Beta Beta Beta and intramurals. But his place on the soccer team has taught him the value of time management.
“We jump right into the semester with practices, games and classes, so you have to budget your time effectively,” he said. “Once soccer is over, I am so used to my routine that it feels like I have ample free time.”
Despite a busy schedule, Winegard still finds time to cut loose and have some fun with his teammates.
“Last year our soccer team went to the Mall of America,” said Winegard. “It was fun to be able to travel around to different stores and goof off with my teammates.”
