Mike WilsonHead Coach -Mike Wilson is beginning his fifth season as head men’s soccer coach at Simpson College.  Wilson, a 2000 alumnus, has compiled a record of 24-44-5 in his four years at the helm of the men’s soccer program.  Simpson went 6-10-2 (4-4 IIAC) last fall for a second-consecutive fifth-place conference finish, while the team earned an NSCAA/adidas Team Academic Award.

Wilson guided one of the youngest Storm soccer teams to a fifth place finish in the Iowa Conference in 2007 - a team featuring a starting line-up of six freshman and five sophomores made the program's 13th consecutive appearance in the IIAC post-season tournament.  Wilson has coached 10 all-conference and 12 academic all-conference student-athletes in his four year tenure at Simpson.

The Storm soccer program has been known for always playing one of the toughest schedules in the West Region.  In 2007, the schedule featured all four programs that held the number one spot in the West Region according to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) rankings.  The 2008 non-conference schedule features Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference powers Augsburg College, Gustavus Adolphus College, Macalester College and the University of Saint Thomas.

A Des Moines native, Wilson came to Simpson College as a freshman in 1996 from Des Moines Lincoln High School.  Wilson compiled an illustrious soccer career playing in the backline for the Storm becoming one of only two players in the history of the IIAC to be named first team All-Conference all four years.  Wilson captained the Storm for three seasons and was voted most valuable defender in 1996, 1997 and 1999 by his teammates.  In his senior year, Wilson was named the team’s most valuable player and became the first Storm men’s soccer player to be selected to the NSCAA All-Region team.

Wilson began his coaching career in 1999 at West Des Moines Valley High School as the head coach of the boys' freshman team and as the assistant boy’s varsity coach. In 2000, Wilson moved to Indianola High School where he served as the boys' and girls' assistant varsity and head boys junior varsity coach. From 2000-2002, Wilson was the boys' junior varsity coach at Mounds Park Academy in St. Paul, Minn.

Wilson came to Simpson from Gustavus Adolphus College in Saint Peter, Minn.  He served as the assistant men’s soccer coach, head junior varsity coach, goalkeeper coach and graduate assistant in the sports information from 2003-2005.  The Gusties made two NCAA Division III Tournament appearances, claimed a share of one MIAC regular season title and won two MIAC Tournament titles during his tenure in St. Peter. Wilson received his Advanced National Diploma from the NSCAA during the summer of 2006. He is continuing work on his master’s degree in sport management from Minnesota State University - Mankato.

In addition to his coaching responsibilities, Wilson is an instructor in the Health and Human Sciences Department.  Wilson resides in Indianola with his wife Susan, a 2001 Simpson graduate.
