Coe Defeats Simpson 2-1
After suffering a day delay due to weather, Simpson and Coe were able to get in their Iowa Conference men’s soccer match Sunday afternoon in Indianola. The Kohawks (6-2-1, 1-0 IIAC) defeated the Storm (3-5-2, 1-1 IIAC) 2-1. Coe got on the board at the 1:16 mark when Alex Michaud completed an indirect kick attempt. Brendan George took the indirect, passed to Vance Rudolph who in turn passed to Michaud for the goal. Rudolph posted what proved to be the gamewinner in the 14th minute when he took a long pass from Kohawks’ goalie Brett Cooper to score. Jim Frizzell (So., Grimes, Iowa, Johnston H.S.) scored the Storm goal at 39:16 as Sandro Tadic (So., Urbandale, Iowa, Urbandale H.S.) got the assist.
"It was a disappointing loss,” said Simpson head coach Mike Wilson. “You can't take anything away from Coe as they were committed to their game plan and did well to finish their two opportunities. We knew that the conference was going to be tough and we'll have to regroup and get ready for our match against Wartburg on Wednesday."
The Storm are back in action Wednesday night when Simpson hosts Wartburg in a 7:30 p.m. start.
