Coach Glow, wife and 3 childrenHead Coach - Jim Glogowski (Glo-gow-ski) is in his first season as head coach at Simpson. As the defensive coordinator at the University of South Dakota, Glogowski was in charge of a South Dakota defense that was the top-ranked run defense in the North Central Conference (NCC) and was fifth in Division II, allowing only 73.8 yards per game in 2006. In 2007, the Coyotes were ranked second in the NCC in defense, allowing only 139.5 yards per game. He also coached the defensive line, special teams and served as the recruiting coordinator for the Coyotes. In 2004, the Coyotes' defensive line was partly responsible for helping South Dakota rank second in the league and 25th nationally against the run (110.7 yards per game). South Dakota's defense finished second in the North Central Conference in total defense (32nd nationally). Glogowski helped defensive back Jordan Davis earn All-American honors during his tenure as 12 Coyotes' defensive players earned All-Conference honors during his stint in Vermillion. Prior to joining the South Dakota staff, Glogowski was the defensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator at Allegheny College (Meadville, Pa.) from 2001-03. Glogowski was special teams coordinator and outside linebacker coach at Clarion University (Pa.) in 2000-01. Prior to that he was special teams coordinator and inside linebacker coach at Allegheny from 1998-2000, a graduate assistant at Augustana College (S.D.) in 1997-98 and a student assistant at South Dakota in 1996. A four-year starter for the Coyotes at strong safety and linebacker, Glogowski was named All-American in 1995 by the Don Hansen Football Gazette after a season in which he had 91 tackles, 21 tackles for loss, 5.5 quarterback sacks and an interception. He was also voted the North Central Conference Most Valuable Defensive Back in 1995. He earned All-Conference honors in 1995 and was honorable mention All-Conference in 1993 and 1994. Joe Beschorner, wife and 3 kidsAssistant Head Coach/Offensive Coordinator - Joe Beschorner, a 2000 Simpson College graduate, returns to his alma mater for his first season as the assistant head coach and offensive coordinator. Beschorner comes back to Simpson from South Dakota, where for the past four seasons, Beschorner was the running backs coach and was the recruiting coordinator for the Coyotes. From 2000-02, Beschorner was a member of the coaching staff at Minnesota State University-Mankato. From 2000-01, he was a graduate assistant for the Mavericks program. Among his duties was monitoring the academic progress of players, working with the strength and conditioning program and recruiting. In 2002, he also was the running backs coach and was a human performance instructor at MSU-Mankato. Beschorner was a member of the Simpson squads that won the 1996 and 1997 Iowa Conference Championships. The 1997 Storm squad won the NCAA Division III West Region Championship and advance to the semifinals of the national tournament. He holds the school record for longest interception return, a 99-yarder for a touchdown that was set during the 1997 national playoffs. Email Coach Beschorner

Mike Cordes and WifeDefensive Coordinator/Special Teams - Mike Cordes is in his first season on the Simpson staff. Cordes comes to Simpson from NCAA Division II Wayne State (Neb.). Cordes will be the defensive coordinator with Glogowski and will serve as the special teams coordinator. Cordes was a member of the Wildcats' staff for the past three years where he was the defensive back coach and special teams coordinator. In 2005, Cordes' special teams at Wayne State were first in the Northern Sun Conference in kickoff coverage, allowing just 11.3 yards per kick return. WSC also ranked first in kickoff returns with a 20.7 average. Cordes began his coaching career at the University of South Dakota where he was a graduate assistant and worked with the defensive backs and linebackers. Cordes began his playing career at Wayne State in 1997, making 73 tackles. Transferring to Nebraska-Kearney in time for the 1998 season, Cordes lettered three times for the Lopers, helping Kearney win a Rocky Mountain Conference title and earn a spot in the 2002 NCAA Division II Football Championships as a senior. Cordes ended his career with 243 tackles and 12 sacks. He earned first team All-Conference honors as a senior and was chosen second team All-Conference as a junior. Email Coach Cordes

Kevin FergusonOffensive Line - Kevin Ferguson is in his fifth season at his alma mater. For the past five seasons he has coached linebackers and kickers. During the 2007 season Ferguson served as the co-defensive coordinator. For the 2008 season his duties have switched to coaching the offensive line.

While at Simpson, Ferguson has coached five All-Conference linebackers and one, two time All-Conference kicker. In 2003, Ferguson coached on a team that went to the first round of the NCAA DIII National playoffs, finishing the season 9-2.

The Newton, Iowa native was a four year letter winner for the Storm as he charted 189 tackles and was twice selected as Academic All-Conference. Ferguson was a member of the Simpson squad that won the Iowa Conference Championship in 1997, the same squad that advanced to the NCAA DIII National Semi-Final. Ferguson was also a three year letter winner in track and field.
Following graduation, Ferguson was a teacher, assistant football coach and strength coach for Norwalk High School in Norwalk, Iowa from 2001-03.

Ferguson is also a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS). Ferguson‚s additional duties include video coordinator as well as the meet manager for Simpson‚s home track & field meets. Email Coach Ferguson

 

Coach Scott AndersonTight Ends - Scott Anderson is in his first season as tight ends coach at Simpson College.  Anderson played for the Storm in 2006 after transferring to Simpson fron NCAA Division II Nebraska-Omaha.  In eight games at running back, Anderson rushed for 310 yards and two touchdowns while catching three passes for 60 yards.

An Indianola native, Anderson rushed for 591 yards and three touchdowns during the 2004 at Nebraska-Omaha as the Mavericks won the North Central Conference Championship.

Anderson resides in West Des Moines.

Coach Paul DavisDefensive Line - Paul Davis is in his sixth season as the defensive line coach at Simpson College.  Davis returns to the program after a one-year sabbatical.  During his first stint with the Storm, four Simpson defensive linemen earned six All-Conference awards with Jason Ripke earning All-American honors in 2004 and 2005.

Davis came to Simpson from Drake University where he served in a similar position during his two stints with the Bulldogs (1993-94, 1996-2001).  Drake won two Pioneer Conference Championships (1998, 2000) during his tenure.

Prior to joining the Drake staff, Davis served as a coach at Carlisle High School from 1987-92 during which time Carlisle qualified for three state tournaments.  Davis has also served as a the Iowa Conference representative to the AFCA Assistant Coaches‚ Committee.

An Iowa State graduate, Paul and his wife Susan have two sons, Tim and Kevin.  Paul and Susan reside in Carlisle, Iowa.

Coach Jordan DavisDefensive Secondary - Jordan Davis is in his first season as a member of the Simpson staff.  Davis was a four-year starter for the University of South Dakota where he played for Simpson head coach Jim Glogowski.

As a senior in 2006, Davis was a first team AP Little All-America and Daktronics first team All-American.  Davis was also named the North Central Conference‚s Most Valuable Defender as a senior.  He made 167 tackles (114 solo) in his career.  Davis charted eight career interceptions and 14 career pass breakups.

Davis has played professionally in the Arena Football League for the Kansas City Brigade and in the AF2 for the Quad City Steamwheelers.

Coach James HoffmanRunning Backs - James Hoffman is in his second season as the running backs coach at Simpson College.  This is Hoffman‚s third year on the Storm staff after serving as a student assistant in 2006.

Hoffman lettered three times for Simpson from 2003-05 as a defensive back for the Storm.

Hoffman, wife Kasey (a former Simpson softball player), and daughter Kameryn reside in Des Moines, Iowa.

 

Coach Ryan McDonoughWide Receivers - Ryan McDonough is in his first season as the wide receivers coach at Simpson College.  McDonough served as a student assistant coach for the Storm last season after he could not continue his Simpson playing career due to injury.  In two seasons at quarterback for the Storm, McDonough completed 67 passes for 789 yards and four touchdowns.
