Junior Legrand Bien-Aime still remembers the day he got to Simpson two years ago—a little late for practice and ready to play the wrong sport.
Worried about moving from his home in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Bien-Aime didn’t even purchase his plane ticket to leave for Iowa until two days before he needed to be at Simpson.
“I’ll never forget the way I got here,” said Bien-Aime. “When I got to school, the team was in the middle of camp, and the coaches wanted me to be in practice right away. I completely forgot which sport I was coming to play and brought my soccer cleats instead of my football cleats. For a good while, I was known as the kid with the soccer cleats on the sideline.”
Being from Florida, Bien-Aime found it difficult to adjust to the small-town Iowa atmosphere at first, but he soon found his own niche at Simpson.
“The experience is different,” he said. “It helped expose me to a different aspect of life and focused on making me a more rounded individual.”
