Baseball Coaches
Head Coach - Ben Blake is in
his third season as Simpson head coach and has compiled a 43-40 record. From
2004-2005, Blake was an assistant coach coach before assuming the duties as
associate head coach in 2006. He has served as the Simpson hitting coach and
has seen 9-of-11 team and 9-of-12 individual hitting records fall during his
tenure. The son of Storm pitching coach, Joe Blake, Ben began his baseball
career at Oral Roberts University before transferring to Simpson in 1992.
During that time he was named first team All-Region and second team
All-Conference for the Storm. Blake graduated from Simpson College and played
for the Cleveland Indians from 1993-94. Email Coach Blake
Pitching Coach - Joe Blake A
name familiar in the history of Simpson baseball, Joe Blake, is in his 25th
season as the Storm pitching coach. A graduate of Simpson, Blake was named IIAC
Baseball MVP in 1971 and was twice named first team All-Conference. He later
played baseball for the New York Yankees. All four of Blake's sons have gone on
to play professional baseball— son Casey is a member of the Cleveland
Indians.
Assistant Coach - Brian
Baker is in his fourth season as coach at Simpson. A
three-year letterwinner for the Storm, Baker is a three-time All-Conference
selection. He was also chosen as honorable mention/third team All-Region three
times from 1999-2001.
Assistant Coach - Jeff
Martens is in his fourth season on the Storm coaching staff. A 2003
graduate of Cornell College, Martens was a three-year letterwinner for the
Rams. He has has served as an assistant coach at Heritage (Colo.) High School
and at Cornell.
Assistant Coach - Jason
Uhlenhake is in his fourth full season on the Simpson staff. An
assistant athletic trainer for the Storm, he began working with Simpson shortly
after the season began in 2005. Uhlenhake will work primarily with the
outfielders and hitters. He played at Wartburg College where he lettered as an
outfielder for the Knights from 2001-02. He began his coaching career at South
Winneshiek High School where he served the assistant varsity and head junior
