DJIn a three game series this weekend Central College defeated Simpson College 2 games to 1. Friday night in Indianola Simpson defeated Central 7-6 in extra innings on a passed ball in the bottom of the ninth inning. Curt Bjork (Sr. Mt. Vernon, IA) went 2-3 at the plate with a double while Cory Dawson (Sr. Altoona, IA) went 2-4 with 2 RBIs. Jared Swim (Sr. West Des Moines, IA) and Jason Hayes (Sr. Lawson, MO) both earned extra base hits, Swim with a double and Hayes with a triple. Dave Johnson (above) hit his first home run of the season in the 2nd inning to put Simpson up 3-2. Jason Hays drove in Dave Johnson (So. West Des Moines, IA) and Colton Calvert (Fr. St. Charles, IA) with his triple in the bottom of the 7th inning to take the game into extra innings. The passed ball in the bottom of the 9th inning brought in Drew Yarkosky (So. Albia, IA) from 3rd base to win the game for Simpson 7-6. Chris Dorff (Fr. Urbandale, IA) was awarded the win for Simpson, his current record on the mound is 1-1.

In the second game of the double header Friday night, Central defeated Simpson 8-5. Curt Bjork (below right) singled, doubled and homered on 4 trips to the plate. Bjork earned 2 RBIs forBjork Simpson as teammate Jared Swim hit his third triple of the season going 2-4 at the plate and an RBI. On Saturday afternoon, the Central bats were hot as the Dutch defeated Simpson 15-3. Shortstop, Cale Smith (So. Indianola, IA) earned 2 RBIs on two hits for Simpson. Jared Swim hit his 7th double of the year and Scott Ethell (Jr. Knoxville, IA) doubled in the 8th inning. However the Central offense proved to be too much for Simpson as the Dutch took the series 2-1.

Simpson will play at Nebraska Wesleyan on Tuesday April 7th and will return home to McBride Field one week later, April 14th as the Storm will take on Grinnell College. That game will begin at 4 p.m.
