Storm go 2-1 against Cornell
The Storm started the Iowa conference schedule Friday night against Cornell College in Indianola. Simpson beat the rams 13-3 in seven innings. There were plenty of highlights for the Storm as eight different players earned hits, and of those eight, six earned at least 1 RBI. Jared Swim (Sr. West Des Moines, IA) went 3-4 at the plate and had 3 RBI's. Scott Ethell (Jr. Knoxville, IA) earned 3 RBIs, Corey Rasmussen (Jr. West Des Moines, IA) had 3 hits and senior Curt Bjork had 1 RBI and 2 hits against his hometown school. Jared Sass (Sr. Iowa City, IA) pitched a complete game for the win, as the game was never in doubt. Simpson cruised to a 13-3 victory.

The first game of the double header on Saturday was not as easy. Trailing 5-3 in the bottom of the 7th inning with 1 man on base, on a beautiful sun swept day in Indianola, senior Jesse Reis (left) of Coon Rapids Iowa homered to tie the game at 5 sending the game into extra innings. In the top of the 8th Kyle Hanna (Jr. Ankeny, IA) came in for Indianola native Mike Huyser after Huyser pitched 7 solid innings. Cornell earned no runs in the top of the 8th inning leaving the door open for Simpson. Dave "DJ" Johnson, a sophomore from West Des Moines Valley, drove in Cory Dawson (Sr. Altoona, IA) for the game winning score. Simpson rallied to beat Cornell in game 1 of the double header 6-5.
Game 2
Cornell edged out Simpson in the second game of the double header on Saturday 6-3. Cale Smith (So. Indianola, IA) earned 2 RBIs for Simpson as the Storm dropped their first conference loss of the season. Simpson will return to action next week at Wartburg for one game on Friday March 27 at 6 p.m. and a double-header on Saturday March 28 at Wartburg.
