Baseball team takes 2 of 3 in Waverly

9 runs in the sixth inning vault Simpson to a 12-1 victory in the first game of the double header against Wartburg on Sunday March 29. After three up and three down in the 5th inning, Jesse Reis got the storm rolling in the 6th with a double to center field. Cory Dawson (left), Dave Johnson (So. West Des Moines, IA), and Jason Hayes (Sr. Lawson, IA) all earned extra base hits for Simpson in the 6th inning. Clint Rhodes earned his first win of the season in game 1, pitching a complete game giving up 1 run on just 4 hits. Rhodes struck out 5 Wartburg batters. Cory Dawson (Sr. Altoona, IA) went 3-3 at the plate with two doubles and 3 RBIs. Corey Rassmussen (Jr. West Des Moines, IA) added 2 RBIs, while Dave Johnson and Jesse Reis earned 2 hits apiece for the Storm.
In the second game against Wartburg on Sunday, the Storm earned 8 runs on 15 hits to beat Wartburg 8-1. Cory Dawson earned his 3rd double of the day while going 4-5 at the plate.
Dawson, Jesse Reis, and Chris Jones (Sr. Germantown, WI) all earned 2 RBIs apiece for the Storm. Corey Rasmussen went 3-4 at the plate with 2 doubles and an RBI. Mike Huyser (So. Indianola, IA) (right) was on the mound for Simpson in game 2, striking out 5 Wartburg batters and earning his 4th win of the season. Curt Bjork (Sr. Mt. Vernon, IA), Jared Swim (Sr. West Des Moines, IA), and Scott Ethell (Jr. Knoxville, IA) all added hits for the Storm. Simpson continues conference action Tuesday March 31 in Indianola against the University of Dubuque. Game 1 will begin at 3:30.
