Baseball finishes the week strong
On the final day of action Saturday, March 13, Simpson split their last double header in Arizona against Johns-Hopkins. In game one the Storm scored 10 runs on 13 hits but unfortunately it was not enough as Johns-Hopkins snuck past in the final inning, defeating the Storm 12-10. In the second game of the double-header, Simpson held off a late JHU rally in the final inning to win 7-6. The Storm again had 13 total hits. Cory Dawson went 2-3 at the plate with 4 RBIs while senior Jesse Reis added 2 RBI's hitting 2-4.
Friday March 13:
Friday, March 13, the Storm split a double header with UW-Stout. In the first game, Stout scored six runs in the last two innings to come from behind and beat Simpson 8-7. Cory Dawson, Jesse Reis, and Chris Jones all had two RBI's in the first game. Cory Dawson went 2-2 at the plate while Reis, and Jones hit 2-3. In the 2nd game Dave Johnson went 3-4 and added 2 RBIs as Simpson defeated Stout in game two 8-3. Ryan Dahlstrom was awarded the win for Simpson.
Wednesday March 11:
Simpson dropped the first game against Wheaton College in Phoenix, Arizona on Wednesday March 11. Wheaton won the 1st game 8-3. In the second game Simpson scored 11 runs off 10 hits for an 11-3 victory of Wheaton College. Cory Rasmussen (Jr. West Des Moines, IA) was perfect at the plate earning 4 RBI's off 4 hits. Jared Swim (Sr. West Des Moines, IA) added 2 RBI's hitting 3-4. Jared Sass (Sr. Iowa City, IA) earned the win for the Storm striking out 7 batters in 5 innings. The Storm will play UW-Stout on Friday March 13. Game time is 12:30 (MST)
Tuesday March 10:
Simpson split with Dickinson College on Tuesday March 10. Simpson took the first game 14-4. Corey Rassmussen (Jr. West Des Moines, IA) went 2-4 at the plate with 5 RBIs. Jesse Reis (Sr. Coon Rapids, IA) added 4 RBIs going 2 for 2 at the plate. Trent Kain recieved the win for the Storm striking out 3 batters in 5 innings. Dickinson won the second game with a 7th inning rally scoring 6 runs. The final score was 6-5. Simpson continues action March 11 with a double-header against Wheaton (Ill) at 12:30 (MST).
Sunday March 8:
Jesse Reis (Sr. Coon Rapids, IA) hit two doubles and added 3 RBIs in the first game of the double header on Sunday against Monmouth. Collectively, the Storm had 3 triples in a 14-7 victory over Monmouth. Cory Dawson (Sr. Altoona, IA) had 3 hits and 2 RBIs while senior Jared Swim added 2 hits and 3 RBIs.
In game 2 Jared Sass (Sr. Iowa CIty, IA) had 6 strikeouts and no earned runs in five innings. Pitcher Chris Jones (Sr. Germantown, WI) finished the game with no hits. The Storm shoutout Monmouth in the second game 7-0. Jesse Reis, Jared Swim, and Cale Smith (So. Indianola, IA) each had 2 hits. Swim, and Cale Smith each had 1 RBI. The Storm will take Monday off and return to action Tuesday against Dickinson College (PA) at 12 p.m. (MST) in Arizona.
Saturday March 7:
Simpson took game 1 from Rockford on Saturday in Phoenix Arizona. Jared Swim (Sr. West Des Moines, IA) earned 3 RBIs on 2 hits as Simpson beat Rockford 7-3 in the first game of their double header at the RussMatt Greater Phoenix Invitational. Mike Huyser (So. Indianola, IA) pitched 4 complete innings giving up no earned runs. Rockford won the second game 14-6. Corey Rasmussen (Jr. West Des Moines, IA) had 2 hits earning 3 RBIs.
