Simpson Athletic Facilities
Simpson student-athletes train and compete in some of the finest small college facilities in the Midwest. Currently, 40 percent of Simpson students participate in intercollegiate athletics, while more than60 percent participate in the intramural program. A wide range of facilities are provided at Simpson to accommodate the needs of the athletes participating in each of the 18 intercollegiate sports.
In 1996, the Carse Fitness Center was opened and named in honor of Wayne (1950) and Jimmie Lou Carse. Initially the 5,000 square foot weight room contained an 18-station circuit area around the perimeter, a 30 square-foot free weight area and a 750 square-foot dumbbell area. In addition to the weights, the weight room contained three treadmills, three stationary bikes, a stair stepping machine and a rowing machine.
In the fall of 2006, Simpson hired its first full time strength and conditioning coach, Justin Snyder. Since then, the Carse Fitness Center has seen over $100,000 in improvements.
That fall, Simpson added two PowerLift Racks and Platforms, a new Accurate Plate Weight for Racks, a new Bumper Weight for seven platforms, one Pair of 105 to 125 lb. Dumbbells, three Glute-Ham Benches, three Reverse Hyperextension Machines, two Four-Way Neck Machines, seven Sets of Band Pegs, seven Sets of Jump Stretch Bands, seven pairs of Double Chains, five Massage Sticks, a Just Jump System, and a Brower Timing System.
In the winter of 2006, Carse was redesigned for a more efficient layout. In addition to the redesign, Carse added three more PowerLift Combo Racks/Platforms for a total of six. Also purchased were six Texas Squat Bars, six Olympic Lift Bars, Bumper Weights for 6 New Platforms, a Plate Weight for six New Racks, a Reverse Hyperextension Machine, six sets of Band Pegs, six Jump Stretch Band Sets, six Pairs of Double Chains, three Aluminum Training Bars (used primarily for women's sports). Also added were three Pairs of Ten Pound Training Bumpers (used primarily for women's sports), nine weight belts (for female sports), two Three Tier Dumbbell Racks, two Pairs of 5 lb. to 10 lb. Dumbbells , 3 Pairs of 15 lb. to 60 lb. Dumbbells, 1 Pair of 90 lb. to 125 lb. Dumbbells, and 2 Four Station Pulley Units
In the summer of 2007, Simpson purchased seven more Texas Squat Bars and seven more Olympic Lift Bars.
