Athletic Training at Simpson

The Athletic Training Staff helps an injured student-athlete off the field.The educational process is full of personal interaction with Simpson College Certified Athletic Trainers as well as many other qualified faculty and staff members. Simpson also offers a quality program in Athletic Training.

The Simpson College Athletic Training Staff features four certified athletic trainers, as well as 35 Athletic Training students that provide care to over 400 student-athletes.

Mike Hadden, MS, LAT, ATC, CSCS, STS
Mike HaddenMike Hadden came to Simpson College in 1997. He serves as the program director of athletic training and exercise science. He is NATABOC certified and a state licensed Athletic Trainer. He is also nationally certified as a strength and conditioning specialist by the National Strength and Conditioning Association and the International Weightlifting Association. Hadden earned an undergraduate degree from Buena Vista University and his masters degree from the University of Kansas in biomechanics.

Jason Uhlenhake, MS, LAT, ATC
Jason UhlenhakeJason has served as the head athletic trainer at Simpson since the Fall of 2006. He is NATABOC certified and a state licensed athletic trainer. He received his bachelor's degree from Wartburg College 2002 in fitness management. He completed his master's at The University of Iowa, where he received his degree in Exercise Science with specialization in Athletic Training. While at Wartburg, Jason lettered in baseball for two seasons.

Emily BreitbarthEmily Ita began her tenure as an assistant athletic trainer at Simpson in the summer of 2009. Ita attended Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where she graduated in 2008 with bachelor's degrees in athletic training, P.E. fitness development health & wellness and P.E. fitness development strength and conditioning. While at Coe Ita was a four-year starter on the Kohawks' volleyball team, earning first team all-conference honors as a sophomore and helping Coe to the 2006 NCAA Women's Volleyball Championship. Ita was a student athletic trainer for four years at Coe and most recently was a independent contractor at Therapeutic Bodyworks-LMT in Fort Madison, Iowa.

 

Katherine KaihoiKatherine Kaihoi, MS, LAT, ATC
Katherine Kaihoi serves as assistant athletic trainer.  Kaihoi comes to the Storm after completing her masters in human physiology at the University of Oregon. At Oregon, Kaihoi worked with the Ducks' football team during the 2007-08 season. She also served as an athletic trainer at Springfield (Ore.) High School during her stint in Eugene. A 2006 graduate of Bethel University (Minn.), Kaihoi is a member of the National Athletic Training Association and will be an instructor in the physical education department at Simpson.
